About the show

The best knowledge in the fishery lives with the people who fish.

What's the Catch sits down with captains, deckhands, buyers, mechanics, scientists and harbour authorities from PEI to the Gaspé to Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula, and asks them what's really going on out there.

Some episodes are recorded in wheelhouses. Some at kitchen tables. A few on the wharf at 5 a.m. with the engine still warm. We talk about the season, the price, the weather, the rules, the gear that works and the gear that doesn't, and what it takes to keep a family fishing operation going.

The show is produced by FishTrak, the team behind the Catch Plotter. We build tools for inshore fishers and spend a lot of our time on wharves listening. This podcast is where that listening goes public. It isn't a sales pitch. When the talk turns to our gear, we'll say so up front.

Every harbour has a story. We're here to record it.
